Impact Windows Cost Calculator
Our 2023 impact windows cost calculator offers accurate project cost estimates on hurricane and impact replacement windows. As a general rule of thumb, hurricane windows cost between $1,000 to $2,400 fully installed. This is a wide range of prices that depends on the model and brand, number of upgrades, glass package adds ons and installation requirements.

Impact Window Basics
Impact windows, or hurricane window, are strong, sturdy window units that are well designed and manufactured. They typically rely on quality glazing, fills, seals, corner welds, glass technology and hardware. The resulting windows are built to stand up to the harsh weather and storms in hurricane prone areas such as the south eastern coastal stretches. To be given this designation, the build must undergo a rigorous testing and certification process and have a Design Pressure (DP) rating of 45 or higher.
Budget Price Estimates
Budget price estimate run between $800 and $1200 fully installed. These models may or may not be actual hurricane windows, meaning they might not have undergone the testing required for the designation. Instead, they are often standard replacements with upgrades to one or more of the following areas; reinforced frame, upgrades to the hardware, fills or spacer systems, and most importantly to the strength of the glass. A good example of this is the Simonton 9800 series -- a replacement window -- that when outfitted with tempered glass and a reinforced lift rail -- can be used as a hurricane window.

Mid Range Price Estimates
Mid range price estimates run between $1500 and $2,000 fully installed. These models should be certified as actual hurricane window series and be quite strong, perhaps even bulky. These would include top rated vinyl hurricane windows and some of the low to mid range fiberglass and aluminum clad models - mainly at the upper end of this price point.

Premium price estimates run between $2000 to $2,400 + fully installed. Most of these window units will be from well known manufacturers and will have a nice wood interior with a fiberglass or aluminum cladding on the exterior. They may use laminated glass and have tons of upgrades ad add ons to the frame, welds and hardware. At this price point, the hurricane units should be stunning units that incorporate the best features and options.

Looking at replacements and wondering about what impact prices. I just recently got an estimate on the PGT 5500 series. 9 replacements of various sizes. I was quoted $21,400 all in.

Jerri, the zip code has no bearing on the price estimate to be honest. But zip codes do affect how much replacements cost in general and this certainly applies to impact series. The more urban the zip code, the more likely the per window price will be higher. More rural locations are generally less expensive. Impact series are expensive in general so finding quality cost effective options is important.

What about if my windows are just normal and I don't want the upgrade cost to go to hurricane windows, but instead want to put ply wood over them? What's that gonna cost me ya think?

Montell, the cost of wood has really gone up lately, but a sheet of ply wood might cot you $20 in 2022. You have 20 openings. Then you hire someone to come over and install them. Let's say it takes them 10 hours to do the work and you pay them $75 an hour. That's $1150 out the door. The real issue on this approach is that when they remove the plywood, you have holes in the boards (or whatever material is on your home.)
This is one reason why many homeowners go with shutters over the openings, but these can be nearly as expensive as what hurricane windows cost. But the plywood is certainly the least expensive option and they are reusable when properly stored. One option is to simply patch the holes and do some touch up paint each storm. Let's say this adds another 3 hours or $225. It's tough to say the right approach -- it probably is on a case-by-case basis for most homeowners.
