Impact Windows
Impact windows are typically heavy duty windows that have a series of upgraded features and parts that allow them to stand up to the wear and tear of the harsh weather conditions found in those areas that experience hurricanes and tropical storms.
Entry Level Impact Windows
Entry level impact or hurricane windows may simply be a standard replacement unit with several upgrades, including a sash reinforcement and a special glass package. By not going through the expensive accreditation process is one way that window manufacturers are able to sell hurricane windows at a lower price point.

Mid Range Impact Windows
Mid range impact windows will be well made vinyl or fiberglass units and will be officially considered impact or hurricane windows (the official definition is a window that has a DP45 rating or higher). They should include high end glazing and seals, upgrades to the spacer and fills, and most importantly a strong window glass package.

High End Impact Windows
High end hurricane windows will often include all of the high end features mentioned on the mid range price point products, as well as the aesthetics found on top wood clad windows. So they will use an aluminum or fiberglass exterior for strength and durability and a high end wood interior for the aesthetic of the home.
