Castle Vinyl Windows

I am currently looking for middle range vinyl replacements for a new home I purchased recently. I need to replace thirty, 32 x 69" replacements. The problem is that I am getting more confused the more vendors I meet with and the more quotes I receive. So far I have quotes from Universal Windows Direct for triple paned glass and a lifetime warranty at $375 per window. I also have a quote from Hanson Brothers or Ideal Windows, also with a lifetime warranty for $375 per window and then I have an estimate from Castle at $350 per window with a lifetime warranty. Other quotes include Tri State Factory at $500 and JJ Windows and Door for Pella windows at $800 a window.

The U factors vary from .24 from Tri State to .29 for the Castles. What is confusing me is that they all have a lifetime warranty, the prices and reviews do vary, so I can't tell which are the better option to go with.

[Contractor Response]

Personally I wouldn't offer Castle to my customers. Ideal costs are middle range, but the U factor for their triple panes aren't the best. Also you didn't mention what windows Universal are offering. In NJ there are so many good windows available around the $400 mark. Try searching for Soft-Lite or Okna - both good choice.

Castle Window Marketing Approach

I recently had an experience I wish I could forget. After phoning for prices on window replacements I was told that a sales representative would come out to meet with me. I explained to the very nice lady on the other end of the phone that I was just shopping around and wasn't ready to make a decision, but I did have all the measurements. She was adamant someone would come see me. Well what a nightmare, the rep did everything from trying to make me feel guilty for not buying windows on the day to pretending to phone his boss to reduce the price. I wasn't buying a new car, all I wanted was some basic window prices. I am already frustrated and my hunt has only just begun, so if anyone knows of a great window company in MA, I would love to hear from you.

castle Windowa Reviews

We recently replaced all our wood clad window units, which dated back to 1940 and were from Castle. We chose the double hungs and five years down the line all the seals are broken. The joke is that Castle Windows don't exist anymore, so my only options is a complete replacement or just a glass replacement. I would love some more options if anyone knows of any.

I have been told that CertainTeed, Alside Sheffield, and Simonton are all names I should take into consideration. My problem is I am not sure if I should go with vinyl again or choose aluminum. To be honest I have no idea what information I should be looking at, but don't want to fall into this trap again.

Susan - Homeowner - 2017

[Contractor Response]

Susan, let's make sure you do it right this time. Certainteed is no longer manufacturing, they sold that portion of their business to MI a number of years ago. MI is not who you want to go with, nor is Alside. Alside uses a snap in sill, which is a problem. There is a new window from Alside that has some promise but I don't know enough about it to recommend it yet. I would look at a Sunrise or Gorell or PGT.
